Heater Cost Calculator

Calculate the running cost of electric space heaters and central heating systems per hour and month.

How It Works

Enter your heater's wattage or BTU output, daily hours of use, and electricity rate. The calculator shows hourly, daily, and monthly heating costs in dollars.

Formula

Cost = (Watts / 1000) x Hours x Rate ($/kWh)

Frequently Asked Questions

How many watts is a space heater?

Most portable space heaters are 750W (low) or 1500W (high). Oil-filled radiators are 600-1500W. Electric baseboard heaters are 250-2000W per unit.

Is electric heat more expensive than gas?

Generally yes. Natural gas is usually 3-5x cheaper per BTU than electricity in the US. However, heat pumps can be 2-3x more efficient than resistance heaters, closing the gap.
